Italian Summer Table | Amazon Finds

An Italian summer table has a way of looking beautiful without ever trying too hard. After almost two years of setting tables outside here in Sicily, I’ve decided the look really comes down to a few honest things: good light, more lemons than seems reasonable, and a happy mix of blue and white with the bright, hand painted ceramics this island is famous for. A little colorful, a little imperfect, always relaxed.

I set a table like this constantly, sometimes for friends and more often just for us and whichever cat has claimed the best chair. None of it is fussy, and none of it is precious, which is rather the point.

Those embossed aqua tumblers you see holding the lemon water. They have a lovely vintage weight to them, the kind of glass that feels like it has always been on the table, and the pressed detailing catches the light beautifully.

That deep cobalt is the whole mood. They read as proper glass in every photo, but they are actually shatterproof acrylic, which matters when you are dining outdoors with a curious border collie orbiting the table.

Big, generous bowls painted with cheerful lemons, and no two designs quite the same. This is exactly the hand painted ceramic look I love about Sicilian tables. They are made for pasta outdoors, but I use them for everything from summer salads to a scoop of gelato when no one is watching.
